About the event

NEW DATE!!

Join us for a conversation between artist Cecilia Vicuña and Camila Marambio, curator and Director of the nomadic research programme Ensayos, as they explore the temporality and fragility in collective actions. Exploring art & text as a political device - the book as an intimate conversation.

Speakers:  Cecilia Vicuña (Artist, Chile) & Camila Marambio (Curator, Director of Ensayos)

Moderator: Silvana Lagos (Curator, Writer & Studio Director for Carsten Höller)

Cecilia Vicuña

Artist-poet Cecilia Vicuña creates songs, performances, installations, paintings, films, written works, books, lectures, and sculptures. Vicuña’s work is always attentive to ethics, the earth, and history. Her object making includes Precarios  —precarious works composed of fragile materials — and  Quipus — dyed wool and fibres inspired by the Andean record-keeping system of knotted cords. Her improvisatory, participatory performances emphasize the collective nature of action and creativity to bring forth justice, balance and transformation of the world. Cecilia Vicuña's solo exhibit “About to Happen” opened at MoCA North Miami in December 2019. Her retrospective “Seehearing the Enlightened Failure” recently travelled from the Witte de Within Rotterdam to MUAC in Mexico City — and is now at the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid, Spain.  Vicuña is the author of 27 books.

Camila Marambio

Camila Marambio is a Chilean curator and the Director of the nomadic research programme Ensayos, which she founded in 2010 in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. Ensayos brings together artists, scientists and locals to exercise speculative and emergent forms of eco-cultural ethics at the world’s end. Marambio was the first Guest Curator of the Extended Research Project at the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America of the Museum of Modern Art (2020) for which she conceived of the Aconcagua Summit. Marambio is a Curatorial Advisor of the Venice Biennale 2022, and currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm.
