About the event

Join Flávio Cohn, Director of DAN Galeria as he explores the outstanding work of Mira Schendel one of Latin America's most important and prolific post-war artists of the 20th Century.

Mira Schendel settled in Milan in the 1930s, where she studied art and philosophy until the outbreak of war. She lived in Rome

from 1946 to 1949, when she moved to Brazil. She lived in Porto Alegre, where she painted, produced ceramic sculpture and

held her first solo exhibition at the Correio do Povo newspaper building in 1950. The following year, Schendel took part in the First Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, later moving to São Paulo in 1953. 

In the 1960s, Schendel produced over two thousand monotypes on rice paper. She began to use materials like acrylic around 1968 and made a set of 150 notebooks from 1970 to 1971. In the 1980s, she produced black and white tempera…
