Frequently Asked Questions

What is Amalgama?

You can read all about us, our mission and work here.

Where is Amalgama?

Our team is mainly based in London, with origins from Colombia, Mexico, Egypt and the United States. We don't yet have a permanent space open to the public, but our plan is to grow and have one, so you can come and visit us soon.

How can I get in touch with Amalgama?

We’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to drop us an email or message us via the contact page:

Why should I become a member of Amalgama?

By joining our member’s community, Amalgama Experience, you are not only gaining exclusive access to the Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese art scene but are also supporting our mission to champion women artists from these regions and ensure the international recognition of their work, process and contributions. Proceeds from the membership help us cover general operational expenses, exhibitions, publications and research.

All our memberships include special discounts to our classes and online courses, professional workshops, conversation evenings, studio visits and special events, and much more.

What type of programmes and events do you offer?

We currently offer a variety of programmes; including online art history courses, online seminars and talks, guided gallery tours, exhibition and studio visits, Members Evenings, masterclasses, mentoring sessions, workshops, among others. For more information and a full, up-to-date list of our virtual and London-based programme, please visit the Amalgama Experience (hyperlink) section of our website.

Some of our events are free, some ticketed and some for members only. Attending some events may require a payment in addition to the monthly or annual membership fee.

Ticketed events have a limited capacity (which will vary according to format) and therefore admission numbers may be limited and cannot be guaranteed. Access may be on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for paid events are non-refundable.

We reserve the right to cancel or rearrange an organised event. We do not accept liability for any costs incurred (e.g. travel) by members if we have to close or cancel an event.

If you have a suggestion for an event or would like to explore a collaboration with us, do e-mail us your proposal. Due to the high volume of proposals, we will try to respond to everyone as soon as possible.

Can I sign up for a course after it has started?

Yes! You will receive the recordings and reading lists for previous sessions and be able to join the next live Zoom session. There is no discount for joining after the course has started.

How is the membership billed?

If you choose to subscribe through monthly instalments, you agree to a minimum one year’s membership. Your first payment will occur on the date you sign up and from then onwards; you will be billed on the same date of every month. If you fail to pay any instalment due, we will contact you and agree to take the payment at the next available date.

If you choose to pay annually, you will make one single payment on the day you subscribe. The membership will be renewed automatically on the anniversary of the first date of subscription unless written notification of cancellation is received.

If you fail to pay the instalment due for your Membership Fee or cancel your direct debit partway through the Membership period you will be required to pay all instalments due for the remainder of your Membership Period.

Failure to make payment will result in the Membership, and any course participation or tickets booked, being cancelled.

We reserve the right to amend the price of Membership subscriptions. You will be informed of any change to subscription rates with your renewal letter.

How do I renew my Membership?

If you signed up for a recurring annual payment via Direct Debit when you joined, we will renew your membership automatically. We will send you notification of your membership renewal at least 14 days before the debit is due on your account.

If you did not sign up for a recurring annual payment via Direct Debit, you will receive an email to remind you when it's time to renew. You can renew online or by writing to members@artamalgama.com

What is the cancellation policy?

All our membership plans have a minimum commitment of 12 months. If you do not wish to renew your membership after the year, please email us at least one month before the end of your subscription so we can make the adjustments. You may cancel at any point; however, there will be no refund for any unused months of membership.

You have the right to cancel your membership and receive a full refund within 14 days. Any benefits used within that time must be repaid to Amalgama. We regret that membership cannot be refunded after 14 days of payment being made as it is treated as a donation.
